BC Sportfishing Group

About Us

Our Story

BC Sportfishing Group got its start in 1996, when Tony Nootebos turned a lifetime of fishing the Fraser Valley with his father Gerry and brother John into Harrison Bay Guided Services. Tony grew up on these rivers, and it showed — word got around fast, and the operation grew from one guide with one boat into the largest sturgeon fishing outfitter on the Harrison and Fraser Rivers.

Today our fleet has grown to 22 boats and our roster to more than a dozen guides, several of whom have been with us since the early 2000s, but the mission hasn't changed since day one: put people on fish and send them home with a story.

Who We Are

BC Sportfishing

We're a team of career fishing guides — not a tour company that happens to offer fishing. Between us we've got guides who've been chasing sturgeon on the Fraser since they were kids, third-generation Fraser Valley families, and guys who left other careers because they couldn't stay off the river. Every guide is licensed and insured, trained in Transport Canada emergency safety (MED A3), Advanced Occupational First Aid, and holds a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. We're proud members of the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society and tag every sturgeon we catch to support the science that keeps this fishery healthy. Rated 4.9 out of 5 across nearly 50 TripAdvisor reviews, we consistently deliver the finest sport fishing experience possible through our team's passion, knowledge, and professionalism.

Our Boats

FISH FEAR OUR FLEET

Our fleet of 22 boats — 20 to 24 feet, from North River, Bolton, and Wooldridge — is built for exactly this river system: stable, comfortable, and rigged specifically for sturgeon and salmon fishing on the Harrison and Fraser. Every boat runs with a full top and heater, so a cold morning on the water never means a miserable one. We outfit conventional anglers with Shimano rods and reels, Gibbs and Brad's Wobblers lures, and fly anglers with Sage, Loop, Lamson, Vosseler, and St. Croix rods paired with Rio and Cortland lines — all included, so you show up and fish.

Our Tackle

Conventional Tackle

Shimano is our main supplier of conventional equipment both for salmon and sturgeon fishing because of its reputation for producing high quality fishing rods and reels for exceeding the standards set in the sport fishing industry. Gibbs provides us with the largest option of lure colours and sizes for almost any fishing application, and have been tried and tested by industry professionals. Grizzly Creek Lure & Tackle supplies swivels, quick snaps, and reel covers for bait cast and center pin/fly reels. Pulling plugs for salmon and steelhead is one of the most effective ways to consistently put fish in the boat and Brad’s Wobblers out-fish the competitors day after day in this category.

Fly Fishing Tackle

Sage, Loop, Lampson, Vosseler, and St. Croix are the preferred choice in rods and reels for our guided fly fishing charters. Rio and Cortland are our preferred choice in fly lines.
